How to clean an emerald
It is one of the most delicate gemstones, but how do you clean it?
Let's talk about emeralds, all you need is a little attention and a few precautions
ONE: Create a solution of warm water with a drop of liquid detergent. Immerse the jewel for 20 minutes, then clean it with a toothbrush with bristles that are not soft but very soft.
Absolutely avoid rubbing with any cloth, where the dust that has settled could cause microscopic but certainly undesirable abrasions
TWO: Rinse with running water, always warm to avoid thermal shock to the gems, and finally a final rinse with distilled water at the same temperature. Ironing water is fine.
Absolutely avoid using any solvent, especially if the emeralds have been soaked in the past to erase small inclusions
THREE: air dry, and DO NOT use a hairdryer to speed up the process.
Like pearls, emeralds should be stored separately from other jewels, to avoid any possible contact rubbing that could scratch their surfaces.
I have described the procedure to you, but do you want to know what I think? For these extremely delicate gems, rely on a trusted professional!
